Compu-Sport, Version 3.15 15 April 2018

Compu-Sport is a Shareware computer system that can be installed on any IBM-compatible PC running any version of DOS (3.3 or later) or Windows (3.x, 95, 98, 2000, 2003, NT, XP, Vista or 7, but not 8, 10 or 11). It provides detailed player and team statistics for

  • Cricket
     - Test Matches
     - One Day Internationals (ODI)
     - Twenty-20 Matches (T20)
  • Rugby (Union)
  • Soccer (Association Football)
  • Tennis
     - Grand Slams, Male Singles
     - Grand Slams, Female Singles
  • Formula 1 Motor Racing

The entire system, from the very first idea in 1989 through design, development, debugging, packaging for deployment and maintenance, is the work of Paul Kilfoil. However, a number of people helped with the huge task of capturing data from as far back as 1877 ; their contribution is gratefully acknowledged in the application's help file, section 10.

What does it cost?  Compu-Sport is free, and can be distributed to anybody in the world with no restriction whatsoever. The shareware version available here is a fully working copy with no expiry date and no data has been omitted from the database. But if you like the product and feel you would like to contribute towards its ongoing development, a donation of 50 SA Rands, 5 US Dollars, 5 Euros or the equivalent in any major currency would be appreciated by the author.

What data is included?  When you download Compu-Sport you will receive the software plus a full set of data for the South African national team (cricket, rugby and soccer), as well as all formula 1 grand prix records and tennis grand slam finalists. The current set of data was correct as at 15 April 2018, and the current software version is 3.15.

How big is the download?  Compu-Sport is tiny compared to the size of modern software! The ZIP file you download is about 1.3 Mb in size and once it is installed the entire system (application, database and help files) will only take about 5 Mb of disk space.

Can I run it on Windows 8/10/11?  Not directly - as of Windows 8, Microsoft has ended support for 16-bit applications. However, if you install a DOS emulator such as DOS Box on your Windows 8/10/11 machine (see www.dosbox.com), then run Compu-Sport within the emulator it will be fine. If you'd like more information on how to do this, contact me.

How do I install Compu-Sport?  Very easy. Just

  • Create a folder/directory on your PC in which to install it;
  • Download the installation ZIP file (click the link on the top right);
  • Unzip the contents of the ZIP file into the folder you created;
  • Run "Sport.exe" and enjoy!

A "readme.txt" file is included ; it contains more installation details and some trouble-shooting suggestions in the event you have problems. I guarantee that Compu-Sport will work on ANY version of Windows up to and including Windows 7. Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are a problem - for these you will need a DOS emulator such as DOS Box.
